Twenty-five years of experience and an intense passion for sustainable outdoor pursuits, outdoor education and protection of our natural and cultural resources.
1994 – 2007 Professional Trail Contractor and Consultant:
President and co-owner of Arrowhead Trails, Inc., Colorado’s leading natural surface, mechanized trail company in its 15th year of business.
President and co-owner of Anasazi Trails, Inc., a recently incorporated trail company in New Mexico.
Member of the Professional Trail Builders Association since 1994, corporate sponsor of International Mountain Bicycling Association and American Trails since 1997
Highlights at Arrowhead Trails, Inc. include:
- Designing and constructing over 400 miles of sustainable, shared-use, natural surface trails in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, South Carolina, Costa Rica, and Camarines Sur, Philippines
- Developing and/or implementing twenty Recreational Trail Master Plans
- Training over 1000 people in Sustainable Trail Design and Construction (including International Mountain Bicycling Association, U.S. Forest Service, Colorado State Parks, Colorado Youth Corps Association)
- Promoting 21st Century technology like the SWECO 480 Trail Dozer and advancing the evolution of mechanized trail building
- Developing family’s fifth generation cattle ranch into a successful private Mountain Bike Ranch (www.barhbreaks.com)
1987 - 1994 Natural Resource Specialist and Park Ranger for Boulder County Parks & Open Space, an innovative and successful county trails and open space management program.
Highlights at Boulder County Parks & Open Space include:
- Developed, implemented and supervised:
- Park Ranger Program, including Colorado’s first Mountain Bike Patrol
- Boulder Regional Conservation Crewleaders (BRCC) Program to train interagency trail crew leaders to lead volunteer trail projects
- BCPOS Trail Management Plan and Resource Management Plans
- Biological Weed Management Program
- Cultural Resource Management including Artifact Cataloging System and Oral History Program
- Provided Teacher-in-Service training for Project WILD, Project Learning Tree, Volunteer Naturalist Program, Walker Ranch Living History
- Administered and monitored agricultural leases
- Researched and wrote articles for various publications
After graduating High School in Taipei, Taiwan in 1980, attended Texas A&M University from 1980-1986 receiving a Bachelors and a Masters Degrees.
Highlights at Texas A&M University include:
- Developed and implemented the Outdoor Leadership Assessment Program to train and evaluate trip leaders and instructors
- Chief Instructor and Trainer for backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking workshops, courses and extended trips
- Instructor/Graduate Assistant for college classes in backcountry leadership, wilderness ethics and interpersonal communication
- Ropes Course /Equipment Manager for the Outdoor Education Institute
- Instructor for Wilderness Education Association’s 30-day expeditions
- Student Leader for the Wilderness Institute for Leadership Development
- Camp Counselor and Instructor for Teen Adventure & Camp Adventure
